Hello and welcome to The Sustainable Healthcare Podcast. Today I’m joined by Lasse Olesen, senior consultant at Green Innovation Group, to discuss investing in sustainability as a competitive advantage. We talk about how to build business cases for sustainability inside pharma and medtech companies, the challenges of cost reduction, the need for organisation-wide sustainability literacy, and the rapidly increasing reporting requirements from CSRD and other regulations. The fundamental insight is that sustainability is no longer a nice-to-have — it’s becoming a procurement requirement, a reporting requirement, and a competitive differentiator. Companies that wait will be left behind by buyers who demand demonstrable progress. We also cover the importance of training non-sustainability staff so that sales, procurement, R&D and operations can all engage credibly with customers on these topics. If you look at what’s available in terms of training, capacity building and knowledge from corporate level, most companies will have some kind of training around what their sustainability profile is. But there’s a big gap between knowing the corporate ambitions and being able to convert that into action in your own daily role. That’s where the literacy investment pays off. Lasse walks through the practical building blocks: stakeholder mapping, materiality, business case structures, and how to phase the rollout so that early wins build momentum. Thank you so much for listening — please share the episode if you found it useful.
